All off to Hatherleigh Cricket Club for Day 3 of sporting ‘Festival of Hope’ fun!

15 July 2022 |

Derrick Brett and his team of cricket organisers were warmly welcomed by Hatherleigh Cricket Club which provided an authentic backdrop for all the children who attended from our Trust schools as well as enough space. Derrick had been able to reach out for expert support from the Devon Cricket Board and their representatives: Alex Jopling and Niall Leahy (an ex-pupil!) who managed to devise a round robin competition with the numbers submitted.

KS1 children enjoyed a carousel of multi sports skills run by Exeter Chiefs community development team who are community partners of the Trust and the fantastic group of BTEC Sports Level 3 sports leaders from Tavistock College.

KS2 pupils participated in the round robin cricket competition on the adjacent field and were assisted by a team of enthusiastic, older students from Okehampton College.

This event took some organising but it was worth it to see so many children from the Trust all in one place having lots of fun, learning new skills and also interacting and looking up to students from our secondary schools. Children, teachers, support staff and parent volunteers all enjoyed the day and being together in the sunshine.

This event was kindly sponsored by Exeter Chiefs. Many thanks to Hazel Clifton at Tavistock College for producing certificates for all who participated and helped on the day. Thanks also to Kai Lau for taking this array of wonderful photos to capture the day.
