Bayeux Cemetery

14 June 2024 |

A fitting end to our time in Normandy was our final visit in Bayeux, at the British Cemetery. As we have almost come to expect, but never take for granted, the children filed in silently through the gates to this immaculate place. We gathered at the war memorial where children and staff echoed the final line of the poem for the fallen:

Let them not grow old as we that are left grow old.

Age shall not wear them, nor the years condemn.

At the going down of the sun and in the morning,

We will remember them.

Our DMAT wreath was laid by 3 children, one from each coach with the appropriate ceremony and solemnity and small crosses gifted by the North Tawton community were placed around the foot of the memorial.
