Quiz Night raises funds for Holsworthy Community Fridge!

22 May 2024 |

Dedicated volunteers from Holsworthy Community Fridge organised a fun quiz night at Chilsworthy Village Hall on Saturday 11th May to raise much needed funds for this community project. The team set the questions, prepared the quiz night supper, and planned the event for weeks beforehand.

Thanks were expressed to Campbell Appleton from Davidstow Saputo Dairy UK who generously donated some delicious cheeses for the quiz supper and to Tamar Trading who supplied prizes and also came along on the night with a quiz team to support.

“It is a pleasure to support the Holsworthy Community Fridge, Melissa and the team do a fantastic job. We had a great evening although we will need to brush up on our geography knowledge before the next one’ said Robin Dobb of Tamar Trading”.

Melissa Trudgill, Community Engagement Lead at Dartmoor Multi Academy Trust, who helped to set the project up and continues to oversee the project said ‘the volunteers otherwise known as the ‘Fridge Friends’ organised the event as well as continuing to run the project day to day.

This event celebrated the project being open for over a year now. In order to ensure this project is sustainable, we needed to raise funds to provide a contingency fund to secure the project. Dartmoor Multi Academy Trust believes in setting up and supporting projects which help not only the children who attend our Trust schools, but their families and the whole community as well.’

The fridge is firmly embedded now in the community and is used on a daily basis by many local people. The Fridge’s main purpose is saving fresh surplus food from going to waste and keeping it within the Town for the benefit of all local people. There is very minimal, if any food left, at the end of the day.

Melissa expressed her thanks not only to the volunteer team but to Waitrose and Co-op for their continuing support of this project, Holsworthy Library for supplying the energy for the fridge, and Live West and Tamar Trading for contributing to the set-up costs of the project and their continued support.
