On the 19th of July, Holsworthy Community College hosted its Y11 Leavers Day. We wanted the day to formally mark the end of this cohort’s time at the college, provide an opportunity to share nostalgic memories and celebrate the achievement of completing exam season.
The day began in tutor groups to begin shirt signings, receive Leavers Hoodies and enjoy time with fellow tutees that the Y11s have begun every school day with for the last 5 years. Events then moved to the Sports Field where students played rounders and fun races, completed an inflatable assault course and enjoyed the chill out zone complete with their own ice cream van and BBQ food.
Students enjoyed spending time getting their school shirts signed and saying goodbye to staff members who had made a difference to them over 5 years at HCC. The morning then ended with a Leavers Assembly. Head of KS4, Mrs. Bloxham, spoke about their next steps and the importance of enjoying life as they plot their future journeys. The assembly ended with students giving Y11 tutors flowers as a token of their hard work and dedication whilst a number of students won awards. Miss Goldsworthy awarded a range of Netball awards whilst the first set of Yearbook awards were given, as voted for by their peers. Awards included Funniest students, ‘Insta-famous’ and the much coveted ‘best dress sense.’ The remaining award winners will be revealed in the yearbook students will receive on results day.
Fittingly the sun shone brightly on our Y11 students at their formal prom at the Falcon Hotel, Bude. After the disruption of recent years, glamorous arrivals were back in vogue with students having staggered arrivals and ample opportunity for photo opportunities next to their vehicles and in front of the impressive balloon arch. An eclectic mix of vehicles cascaded down through the streets of Bude with students arriving atop horses, inside tractors, in sports cars, riding a top a kit car they had constructed and even with a Shetland pony in tow! It was great to see students have their time in the spotlight, modelling their beautiful dresses and handsome suits, whilst also giving parents and family members the opportunity to be part of these fantastic memories.
Time was spent in the hotel gardens, where students could enjoy their welcome soft drink in the sun and be a part of the group photographs. The party then moved inside where students enjoyed a delicious buffet, a few prom awards and a photo booth with props before the main action of the evening began on the dance floor!
This busy week was only made possible through the hard work of a number of HCC staff and in particular, Mrs. Bloxham, who was the driving force behind ensuring this year group had a fitting end to their time at the college. Now, roll on results day in August!
